Millions of people across the world suffer from insomnia each and every day. Because of this, many people are frustrated with how insomnia affects their mood, their career, family life and many other day-to-day events. Take a bath right before bed. A nice warm bath can help your body get to the relaxation place it needs to sleep. Throw in some salts or bath oils to help create an even more relaxing experience. But be careful not to linger in there too long. Its important to not stay in the bath to the point that your body is exhausted from the heat.

One method of preventing insomnia is to make your bed a place that is just for sleeping. Dont take your paperwork from the job to bed, dont make long phone calls, and dont pay bills in bed. It is also best to eliminate TV watching in your bed if you want to sleep well.

Dont drink or consume food just before going to bed. Eating stimulates your digestive system and body. Drink something small and have a snack at least about 2 hours before you relax for the night. Eating late at night can make you have a lot of dreams, too!

Maintain a regular bedtime routine. These rituals will let your body knows its bedtime. The results are that you will likely feel sleepy as a result of the rituals, which defeats insomnia.

Limit the amount of time you spend in bed. Your bed is for sleeping and not to pay your bills or make phone calls. It is also important that you refrain from listening to your radio or watching your television while in bed. These types of activities make you alert and make it extra difficult to fall asleep.

Exercise

Try deep rhythmic breathing to snap out of a bout with insomnia. Lay in bed with your eyes closed and simply breathe with deliberation. This exercise will relax you and help take the focus off of the price you will pay tomorrow for not getting enough sleep tonight. Try counting the breaths too, to get sleepy faster.

If you are waking up because your legs are uncomfortable, talk to your doctor about restless leg syndrome. There are a myriad of causes for this disorder, but sadly, there is no cure. There are some strategies which can help, such as exercise, calcium/magnesium supplements and even smoking marijuana, and your doctor can advise you on what to try.

The more exercise you get, the better. You can literally tire out your mind and body by getting up and getting active. This can help to calm restless leg syndrome or just make your body want to go to bed and sleep. Try not to exercise near bedtime, though, as it can stimulate you.

Nutrition

Drink copious amounts of vitamin D during the day to help with your sleep. This vitamin will help your muscles relax and strengthen your bones during the night. This will also reduce the tension that is caused by lack of nutrition, which will make you feel more comfortable as the night wears on.

As you can see, there are many things to understand about insomnia that we often dont pick up on ourselves without some education.
